Hosting a Gathering

The requirements for hosting a WIP gathering are minimal. The host must:

  • Be able to accommodate at least 6 other people.
  • Have a piano in reasonable condition, or a good keyboard.
  • Provide water and bathroom access.
  • Allocate at least two hours for a gathering.
  • Collect information about each piece played: the name of the piece, the composer, the name of the performer, and the instrument played (if it's not the piano). Send the information to the WIP organizer.

Hosts are in charge, and are free to impose additional requirements.

WIP gatherings typically operate informally. Hosts tend to also be the emcees, signaling the start of the music, and when a break should occur if one is needed. The host may need to impose time limits on the performers so as to allow everyone to perform within the two hour window. Hosts can choose to extend the gathering time, but no one is obliged to stay more than two hours.

The WIP group gets its strength from the social connections of its members. While not a strict requirement, hosts should allow time for socializing.

Hosts should make everyone feel welcome and included, especially anyone attending for the first time.

Currently, we meet at 2 PM on the first Sunday of each month. The time and the day can be modified, if needed.

If you have attended several gatherings, meet the minimum requirements, and have not hosted, please consider doing so. If you have concerns or questions about hosting, contact the WIP organizer. WIP gatherings cannot occur without a host.

If you host a gathering and run into any issues, let the organizer know.
